Why I Canceled My Subscription to the Jillian Michaels App & Vegan Meal Plan

Biggest Loser trainer Jillian Michaels has a paid fitness app called “My Fitness”. I decided to try it because a) I’m always looking for new workouts and b) it comes with a bunch of meal plans, including a vegan one! So I signed up for the 7-day trial…and pretty much instantly new I’d be canceling. Here’s why.

So… I have the app and I’ve contacted customer service with complaints.
    1. Customer service said that Jillian set the calories so low because often people eat extra servings- I agree this is pretty stupid but that was the response to the same complaint.
    2. The workouts are cardio mix. I also want more burn. However, the layout for this app is AMAZING if you are working out next to a sleeping baby. Honestly nothing has been so nice and motivating for these moments- so you may have different needs but I think it fills a definite workout void in my life and would encourage others to check it out.
    3. The combo moves may go to building stability. When you master stability you can move to heavier weights
    4. She always says the same things about food and soy- very consistent. Consequently expect nothing new from the app. I may just take this very lightly since I never eat the exact plans but like it as a recipe resource.

I get 100% where you are coming from with a lot of comments but I think a lot of the complaints you would have known going in and probably the only one I wholeheartedly agree with is the insane caloric restriction

Absolutely love that you’re a rational vegan. It’s one thing that turns me off regarding other vegans online…the amount of woo and anti-scientific beliefs. Thanks for another great video!

Some work outs for the upper body might have been for the smaller muscles that lay across your back and maintain your posture and shoulder placement. For those areas, you can’t lift heavy weights without doing serious damage to those muscle groups.

I have downloaded this app and I love it. There are only 3 cardio moves per workout that are repeated twice and on the 3 day is all cardio. You are not forced to follow the meal plans. I do my own meal plan and have been have great success in losing weight with her workouts.

Starvation is when you don't know when you'll be able to eat next. Fasting isn't starving and neither is low caloric meals.

The most nutritious food on the planet is low calorie…So who cares how many you're eating as long as you're healthy?

Ok, so far I've only watched 5 min of your review and I'm immediately thinking that EMILY SKYE'S FIT program and app would be perfect for you! I've repeated it several times now but I need a change since after a while you tend to get bored with programs.(It took me 2 years with it though so that's definitely worth the money.) So I'm thinking about trying Jillian's program. And I'm not at all encouraged after giving it a trial chance and after watching just 5 min of your video. — Anyway, I hope you find one that you really like instead. GOOD LUCK!

I don't really trust Jillian Michaels because of 'The Biggest Loser'. A lot of the contestants did not lose weight in a healthy way and didn't do well after the show.

have you checked out fitness blender? I love their programms and they have a meal plan which I quite like. It is not vegan but very plant based, the animal products are easely replacable, which they also write about in the program. also you only pay once for the programs

I would appreciate feedback from anyone here: I struggle a lot with something Swayze brought up. I am obese with chronic and sometimes debilitating middle/upper back pain. I've gone to multiple doctors and they all just tell me to lose weight. I've lost almost 40 lbs now and I'm still in as much pain. I have been swimming bc it's the only excersize I can do at the moment without vomiting from the pain. I want to start building muscle so I'm not just doing cardio. I cant afford a personal trainer and every low impact YouTube video I find is for knee or lower back pain. When I do them I still end up in excruciating pain. Does anyone know where I can find a free or low cost guide to lifting for my specific issues? My doctors simply will not help me or consider that anything else is wrong until I lose all this weight despite having delt with this pain for nearly 10 years… And building muscle would really help me do that. But I need a safe way to do it.

I think the main problem with these types of training programs and nutrition plans, is how little thought is put in to making sure people are able to comply with them. It doesn't matter if someone can follow a diet or training plan for 3 or 4 weeks, if in six months they've gained the weight back. I do not think it is lack of will power, or because people are not willing to work hard. And going straight for the blaming these kind of things is something I find frustrating. Work outs that are too hard or you have to grind out to complete are not enjoyable. Instead applying a correct and quantifiable stress that can be kept track of, will work much better in the long term. The same could be said for dieting.

In case you're looking for something else – Fitness Blender is by far the best workout platform out there. I absolutely hate working out and if it wasn't for Kelli & Daniel being so down to earth, cheerful, professional and helpful, I'd never work out regularly. But as it is, I've been working out with them for almost 4 years now and they really are great. Their programs are very affordable and they offer a vegan meal plan. Not only that, even their omnivore meal plan is heavily plant based – they even say that themselves. Plus they are very much against any of the detox/unnecessary supplements mumbo jumbo and cutting calories. And yeah, Kelli wears a different outfit every single time 😀

Yeah, soy is generally alright unless you've got an allergy!

I've got an allergy, I should avoid soy — unfortunately, it's among the cheaper veg+ options in the States (cos it's one of the most heavily subsided good crops in the US, which is why they even put it in non-vegan stuff, just to keep the cost down). Most people don't have an allergy, and some people with an allergy as a child will outgrow it as an adult, and the prick test for food allergies is actually notorious amongst allergists for giving false positives, and it doesn't work for other dietary intolerance.

No, soy is not for literally everyone, but it's generally a cheap and nutritionally efficient source of protein for most people, in any of its forms.

I think the low calorie diets is really dangerous to be paired with work outs. As a server, if I went on a low calorie diet I would be starving myself as I'm constantly lifting heavy trays and running around and doing other physically exhausting work. Low calorie intakes can only be good for people who don't move around much because your body needs the energy from food to function.

i love her DVD workouts as they had options for beginners/advanced, but damn that meal plan is insane. i haven't bought them but the fitnessblender vegan/vegetarian meal plans seem like they'd be better, as they allow 3 meals plus 3 snacks.
