Everywhere you turn, people give out diet tips and advice for how to lose fat or build muscle fast. The problem is, most of that advice is terrible and will not help you to get to your goal any faster. As a matter of fact, many popular diet tips will do exactly the opposite of what they are supposed to be helping you to do. In this video, I cover four of the most popular diet and meal plan tips that need to be buried right here and now.

Right off the bat, some will have you believe that eating fat makes you fat. That can’t be further from the truth. Eating fat, COULD make you fat if you eat in excess of your daily caloric maintenance levels just as eating too many carbs and protein can as well. The simple act of eating a fat molecule will not cause it to be stored as body fat in your body. In fact, nutritional fats are a necessary part of a healthy diet plan, with fat making up a portion of the surrounding layer of nearly every cell in your body.

Next diet myth that needs to die is the concept that eating after 6PM at night is somehow going to make you fat. Again, it comes down to where you are at in your daily caloric intake in relation to your maintenance levels. If you are 800 calories below your daily caloric maintenance intake, eating these calories at 7 or 8 or even 10PM is not going to adversely affect you in your pursuit of getting a ripped six pack. The fact of the matter is, you are still at or below your level to maintain your current level of body fat and simply shifting the time at which you consume these calories does not change their thermal effect.

That said, eating your meals too infrequently throughout the day can wreak havoc on your blood sugar levels. Having wildly unstable levels of blood sugar can lead to severe alterations in mood, focus and most importantly cravings. When you allow your cravings to build too significantly, you often find yourself in a position where you will grab foods that don’t align themselves with your healthy eating approach needed to get ripped and stay ripped as you build muscle.

The next popular eating and diet tip that is dispensed all too often these days is the concept that you cannot build muscle if you are following a vegan or vegetarian meal plan. Why? There are plenty of protein options available to those following a meat and dairy free meal plan including quinoa, chick peas, and even pea protein powders that enable vegans to get adequate protein without having to follow a meat based eating plan. The total amount of protein needed to build new muscle is still a hotly debated topic however it has been shown to vary from individual to individual and could be far less than what you may have been told previously.

Finally, there is a mistaken belief by some that taking supplements and fat burners will get you ripped. That is simply not the case if you refuse to also take your daily diet plan seriously. If you think that you can eat like garbage the whole day and simply pop a supplement and get lean, ripped abs you are wrong. That said, someone that is committed to eating healthy and then supplements their diet plan with workout and nutrition supplements is often able to get much faster results than those that don’t.

A lot of the success of workout supplements has to do with their ability to help you remain consistent with your nutrition plan and stay accountable to it. Starting your day with a supplement that you are financially invested in will help you to be emotionally invested in the goals you set forth for getting ripped and muscular that you set when you initially purchased the supplement.     The not eating after a certain time is really ideal if you are incorporating Intermittent Fasting to your daily feeding routine – If you stop eating at 6pm then go to bed at 10pm sleep all night and then eat again say at 8 or 9am then that’s a good 13-14 hour period where your body’s insulin lowers and your digestive system gets a break from having to continually digest food – Intermittent Fasting combined with training in a fasted state can also enable your body to burn more of its own fat stores as a fuel source.

    I knew a guy that was trying to get some one big one time. He said oh man just give me $200 I'll take you down to GNC I will get you some supplements and get you big AF. Six months and about $400 later, the kid still looked the same. looking back I wish I would have said something instead of just shook my head. I don't think he would have listened anyway. The guy giving him this instruction was a big country boy, husky not lean and muscular, but he thought since he was big he knew all there was to know about strength.

    One good point about not eating late, however, is your digestion interrupting your sleeping patterns. I'm curious what your opinion is about that? Also, sorry Jeff, but eating like a vegan is NOT a balanced healthy diet. It just isn't. Vegan based proteins are NOT nearly as good as those from meat!!!! I'm a biologist, and it's just the truth.

    I’m vegan and in the Army National Guard. I don’t take supplements and have no problems with gaining muscle. It’s all about good work outs and consuming complete proteins.

    Make this easy. Estrogen and testosterone are fed by good fats. Thus if you eliminate the fat from your diet you will lose strength as you age. The simple solution to eating eat less than 30 grams of carbohydrates a day zero sugar carbs except for your birthday or Christmas. I'm talking process sugar carbs not the carbs are in a tomato. You want to consume as much protein as you can. My favorite way is I make my own sausage out of chicken no carbs lots of protein. And I eat jumbo eggs half a dozen a day they are a grams of protein each whereas a regular egg is only 6 grams. I have lost over 300 lb using this method without lifting weights sir. Of course it was three different times that I've lost over 100 pounds. it's hard to stick away from the sugar especially when you're a chef. All adults should get at least 60 grams of protein a day. Very difficult to do without eggs unless you are rich. I consume as much protein as possible I also add avocado because it is a healthy fat and also drink turmeric tea in the mornings. Now I have just begun trying intermittent fasting because the fat deposits in my loose skin won't go away the intermittent fasting is supposed to encourage those cells to start working in Burn to fuel your body and your testosterone. And help you get rid of some of your loose skin.

    I realize this video is a bit old. But still, there is a caveat to caveat when it comes to "calorie per gram". Yes, sugar is 4 calories per gram and fat is 9. However, it takes much more time and energy to break down fat and turn it into glucose, that in turn will be stored as fat. It's almost to the point of being counter productive. That's why it's very difficult to get fat by eating fat alone. That's what keto diet is based on. Now with sugar, all it takes is a bit of insulin, that's all. It starts absorbing in your mouth and in most cases never even makes it to your stomach. So if you eat fat and carbs, you will get fat, but not from fat, but from sugar.

Do you feel better than you did before health wise? Do you know true facts or are you just throwing your two cents into the jar/you believe everything Dom Mazzetti says because his hilarious videos/book (Shit's church, dawg) say so?

    The second one is true you can eat at night without you getting fat, but if I remember correctly your circadian rhythm will be disturbed which isn't healthy, your body don't expect food at that time cause it will begin working again instead of relaxing, but I'm no expert as you can clearly tell so please go read about it, its pretty interesting

    Keep in mind that pea protein has iron 70% DV per 30g serving. To much iron can cause liver damage and death.

    I've lost 108lbs and maintained on Keto diet….. High fat diet.

    Love love your workout stuff. Not your nutrition stuff. You definitely need to do more research and really listen to the mind set of obese people that have lost weight. SOOOOO many have done it and maintained with Keto.

    Love the point at 6:20 that most people overlook. If you take your pre-workout or other supplements, it is much easier to motivate yourself to workout. This is especially true if you are in a caloric deficit. If I am wasting calories on a protein shake – which isn't that satiating compared to whole food – I am 100% going to take advantage of it and workout.

    I have lost 45 pounds in the last 10 weeks (6f3 starting weight 275 lbs). As far as the diet component, I decided not to give a rats ass what time I eat nor intermittent fasting. I frequently eat my main meal (chicken breast brocc & sweet potato) at 9-10pm. I follow one rule: calories IN calories OUT + protein macros
